Queenstown in the fall

Our final trip to Queenstown to meet Lin and Frank - first, a stop in Roxborough in Central Otago (53kb) Too bad the shop was closed - what a great outside! (56kb) Cromwell, at the meeting of the Clutha and Kawarau Rivers (23kb) Getting oriented is easy (22kb) We stopped at the historic goldfields on the Kawarau River, dating from about 1861 (50kb)
Looking down the river toward Cromwell (48kb) One of the stamping machines, run off water forced down by gravity (50kb) Water jets, washing off the dirt with powerful blasts, also fed only by gravity (52kb) Looking for gold, watching out for Brandy the lab, who loved eating the ice out of the troughs (68kb) Chinatown, at the goldfields (51kb)
These huts are based on real huts, but were rebuilt when a movie was filmed here (53kb) Hard to imagine living here - cold winters and hot summers! (51kb) But a great Devonshire tea followed our gold panning with fresh scones, cream, and conserves (44kb) Sara decided to go bungy jumping - the Kawarau River bridge was shrouded in fog (15kb) Cold and foggy - no splashdown today (35kb)
Sara was a bit nervous (47kb) Okay, she was really really nervous! (60kb) She stood at the edge for quite a while, but then she decided - it was time to go! (45kb) Yep, that's her, hanging upside down! (25kb) LF-QT050.jpg (29kb)
