Queenstown

March/03 - On the way to Queenstown and taking a shortcut . . . oops, guess it won't be so quick after all! While T, J, and S went paraglilding in the afternoon, I took a long mountain bike ride, first up a trail above Lake Wakatipu . . . (34kb) then through the Queenstown Botanical Gardens, . . . (106kb) Then out past the Franklin arm . . .  it was a perfect day to be outside (52kb) I ended up at the lake, but it was a little too brisk for me to go swimming! (63kb) Before dinner, we took advantange of the spa at the motel - now this is the view to have when you're in the whirlpool! (37kb)

Up at the Dart River - we took the 4wd van up, then hiked over to the river and jet boated down (37kb) Arrowtown - the location for the Ford of Bruinen in LOTR (59kb) Obviously, it's not too deep here - they digitally superimposed the flood in the scene from footage of the Shotover River nearby (47kb) But it all looked very familiar - lots of fun to walk around on the set!
