Conditions of Use
All primary texts published in The Online Archive of Nineteenth-Century U.S. Women's Writings are scholarly editions newly prepared for the internet. As such, they are copyright protected (while the copy-texts from which they were prepared remain in the public domain). However, because the purpose of The Archive is to make the readings widely available to new readers, the following conditions of use apply:
- Users are permitted to print copies for their personal use.
- Permission is given in advance for teachers who wish to print copies to include in course-packs or to distribute as handouts, as long as the text is printed in its current form.
- These texts (including images) may not be used for any commercial purpose without permission from the editor. The single exception is detailed above: teachers are permitted to include printed copies in a course-pack to be purchased by students at a university bookstore, copy-center, or other commercial outlet.
- Users are not permitted to download texts and images in order to mount them on their own servers for public use or use by a set of subscribers.
