How to Submit your HTML Project
Congratulations: you've finished the HTML Project and are ready to turn in your work for a grade! In order to do so, complete the following steps:
- Create a new folder entitled "yourusrname."
- Put into it all html and image documents that constitute your contribution to the Archive. Note: Include ONLY those html and image files I need to post your assignment to the web. Including backup files, unused image files, and so on, will seriously lower your grade.
- Drop a copy of the folder and all its contents in my dropbox. (Instructions at the end of this document.)
- Prepare and hand in to me a well-organized packet containing "hard copies" of the following documents:
- A WORD (or other typed) document that provides me with information I need as editor of The Online Archive (explained more fully below)
- A clean and clear xerox of the copy-text(s) you used to prepare your HTML edition
- ORIGINAL COPIES of all correspondence you've had with owners of copyrighted material that gives me permission to reproduce that material in The Online Archive
- In rare cases, copies of correspondence you've had with librarians about your copy-text (e.g., that provides essential information about the copy-text, such as errata, condition of the copy, and so on).
The WORD (or other typed) document described above should provide the following information :
- Your name and e-mail address. If you've worked in a group, list all members' names, but only the e-mail address of the contact person (i.e., the person with whom I should correspond should problems arise). If you don't do e-mail, provide a campus or snail-mail address.
- Complete bibliographical information for the copy-text
- Name of library housing the copy-text, including name of special collection, if any.
- Names of individuals who keyed in the copy-text and individual(s) who proofread. These must be two different people. [This is necessary for the process of certifying that an edition has been prepared according to the scholarly standards set by the Modern Language Association.]
- A complete list of all changes you've made from the copy-text. Be as detailed and specific as possible.
- A list of all images (including background images) that are currently copyright protected, followed by their status (e.g., permission requested; permission requested and received; permission requested but denied; and so forth).
- A list of all images (including background images) that you've obtained from public domain (such as clipart archives), including the name and URL of site. Note: all images you submit will fall into one of these two categories.
- A statement specifying one of the following options: I(we) do/do not wish you to consider this work for possible publication in The Online Archive of Nineteenth-Century U.S. Women's Writings. Note: your answer to this question will not affect your grade; it will only tell me whether to proceed beyond the act of grading.
- 50-word biography for each contributor (only if you're submitting your work for possible inclusion in The Archive).
- Your signature. In case you've worked with a group, the signatures of all group members must be included.
Optional: Students wishing to submit their Archive Assignment for possible publication MAY include the following in their WORD document:
- A list of alternate images or background colors (i.e., images or colors to use in the event that permissions you've requested for first-choice images are denied). Include permissions (for copyright protected materials) or URLs (for public domain materials).
- Names of any librarians (or other professionals, e.g., from Computer Center or Instructional Media) who have been particularly helpful to you in the process of research and whom you wish to thank in the acknowledgments.
- Bibliography of research tools and general reference works you found helpful during your project (for inclusion in the general bibliography).
