Blue families of Columbia and Montour counties

 

In 1778, a Frederick and a William Blue were listed among the inhabitants of White Deer Twp., Northumberland county, PA. (Annals of Buffalo Valley, by Linn)

The 1790 Census of Northumberland county lists Michael, Frederick, and Peter Blue as heads of households. Michael had another male under 16 in the household while both Frederick and Peter had 3.

In 1798 (November 5), Frederick is on record in the Northumberland county courthouse as a resident of Mahoning Twp., and selling livestock to a Daniel Montgomery for 35 pounds.

The 1800 Census lists no Blues in Northumberland county, perhaps because of the skirmishes with Indians in the area or because the county had been divided.

In 1802, Peter Blue purchased from the heirs of Isaac Boudeman (Budman) fifty-eight acres in Mahoning Twp. adjoining the land of Frederick Maus, one of the first settlers in the area and namesake of the town of Mausdale.

In the 1810 Census, in Chillisquaque Twp., a Mary Blue is listed as head of household, with 4 other adult women and a male age 10-16 residing with her.

The Pension Roll of 1835 (vol. II) lists a Frederick Blue, age 84, as having served as a private in the Penna. Militia and residing in Columbia county. A Michael Blue, age 85, had served in the New Jersey Militia and was also residing in Columbia county. Commencement of pensions for both are listed as March 4, 1831.
