Sailed from England for Virginia 21 August 1635 aboard the ship George, around 1638 was in Salem, Mass. with entourage of a Lady
Deborah Moody of Wiltshire, England, who sought to escape religious persecution; they ended up in New
Amsterdam circa 1643 (lot owner in original settlement of Gravesend,
Long Island).
Married Anna Catharyn Smith, b. ~1623 in New Amsterdam. She was a widow
(of a John Smith?) when they married 4 June, 1644, with one son. According to Dutch naming customs, her parents were probably Margrietti and Joseph, althought Joseph could have also been her first husband's name.
7 children, all born at Gravesend, L.I.:
5 children:
6 children were born with Anneke:
Elias Golden, son of 3Joseph, b. 28 Aug. 1704 in Middletown, NJ, d.
25 June 1765 and is buried in the Golden Cemetary, Middletown, Monmouth Co.,
NJ. He married 1) Adrianetje Aersen (Harrison), b. 24 June 1705, d. 10 April,
1755 and 2) Nellie Schenck Henrickson on 30 July 1761 (both of Monmouth according to NJ marriage license listing). Children:
Joseph Golden, son of 3Joseph, (1706-1777) married Adriantje Lane/Laen (1704-pre 29 May, 1776), daughter of Jacob and Elizabeth VanDarkle Lane.
Have much more on these lines, but all now go by Golden.
They had 9 children:
Jacob Golder, son of 4Joseph, (22 Jan., 1730 to 31 Aug,. 1811) married Mary Drake (d. 14 Aug., 1801) in 1753/4. He died at Hopewell, NJ, a veteran of the Am. Revolution. They had 4 children:
William, b.1677, son of 2Joseph Golder (I) married Geesje Polhemus in 1706 at
Gravesend, Kings Co., L.I. He died in March, 1748 in Jamaica, L.I., NY. William and John Bleuw are listed next to each other in the 1708 tax lists for Jamaica, leading me to think they may have been neighbors or friends. (There are later Golder/Bleuw marriages.)
11 children:
Joseph, son of 3William, (b. 1707 d. pre-29 May, 1784 when will was proved) married Grietje Blauw, daughter of Michael Blauw and Antje DeMott (wife listed as Elizabeth in Joseph's will, but this is a common Dutch to English translation). They had 8 children (all in Hempstead, Queens County, LI):
- William b. around 1730, may be the William that married Phoebe Skidmore (b. 1739 in Hempstead, daughter of Andrew and Abigail).
- John
- Michael b. 9 Nov. 1733 in Jamaica, L.I. (d. prior to 4 Aug., 1780 in Hempstead, NY) married 18 Dec. 1761 to Altie VanNoostrand3, daughter of Albert and Antje DeMott VanNostrand, and had children: John (died young), Elizabeth, Elsie, and Mercy/Molly (according to grandfather Joseph Golder and granduncle Jacob VanNostrand's wills). Elizabeth survives and marries a David Whaley
- Garret married Magdalena/Lena Covert, daughter of Tunis Covert, and died prior to May of 1781
- Dianah (twin), who married Elijah Wood, and
- Garsena (twin)
- Elizabeth b. ~1740, d. 1785-86, unmarried
- a daughter who married John Flowers (Fowler?) (could be Abigail or Rachel?)
Nicholas, son of 3William, (b. 12 May, 1723 in Jamaica, Queens County,
NY, d.? in Belle Mead, NJ) married Maria ? (possibly Mary Blauw/Blue, Grietje's sister), b. around 1725, d. maybe 1775?.(I am thinking Maria's father was Michael Blauw, named for grandfather, Michael DeMott.)
