Geoff received his PhD. in economics in 1997 from the University of North Carolina. He wrote his dissertation on the economic history of South Africa. He has a B.A. in economics from Northwestern University.

Geoff came to Bucknell University at the beginning of the 1995-1996 academic year.  Geoff teaches Principles of Economics, African Economic Development, South Africa: Apartheid and After, Intermediate Political Economy, and Comparative Economic Systems at Bucknell. Prior to coming to Bucknell, he was a visiting professor for one year at Bates College in Maine, where he taught a variety of courses including history of economic thought, international trade, and the political economy of South Africa. He also taught economics courses for several years at the North Carolina State University and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill while pursuing his doctoral degree.
