This year the annual IAFFE conference will take place in Mexico City
and Taxco, June 19-22. It will be the second time that the conference will
take place outside of the United States and we expect that this will be
an excellent opportunity for IAFFE to build its connections with Latin American
feminist economists as well as with scholars from other regions. The conference
will begin with a plenary session in Mexico City on the evening of Thursday,
June 19th. All other sessions will take place at the Ex-Hacienda El Chorrillo
and Monte Taxco Hotel, Taxco, State of Guerrero.
IAFFE (International Association of Feminist Economics) is a young
organization which provides an open forum for dialogue and debate about
feminist economics perspectives. It aims at opening new areas of economic
inquiry, welcoming diverse voices, encouraging critical exchanges and enriching
the field of economic discourse. Its goal is not just to develop more illuminating
theories, but to improve the conditions of living for all children, women
and men.
TAXCO
The city of Taxco, where the majority of the Conference will take place,
is known as ìThe Silver Gateway in the State of Guerreroî.
At 1,775 meters above sea level, it is located about 160 kilometers from
Mexico City in the northern part of the State of Guerrero. Given its geographic
location, it enjoys one of the best climates in the world. Among the colonial
cities of Mexico, Taxco is noteworthy for the charm of its picturesque beauty,
the unique harmony preserved by the Church of Santa Prisca and its old homes,
juxtaposed upon each other, as they rise up along the slopes of the mountain.
TRANSPORTATION TO MEXICO
Continental Airlines is offering special group rates to travel to Mexico
from the USA and Europe and optional travel services after the conference.
You can contact them and ask for
Z Code ZSVD, Reference Code NPL005.
- Transportation within Mexico
- There will be charter buses leaving from the Ritz Hotel in downtown
Mexico City to Taxco, and from Hotel Monte Taxco to Airport and/or Ritz
Hotel. This service will be offered only on Friday early morning and after
the conference on Sunday noon and Monday noon.
- Alternative Transportation to Taxco
- If you have to travel to Taxco on your own, this information will
be helpful:
- Bus services from Mexico City to Taxco are offered at the Central
Camionera del Sur (South Bus Station). A deluxe bus service, for about $10.00,
leaves at 8:30 a.m., 11:40 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. Regular bus services are offered
each hour from 8:00 a.m. to 8 p.m. for about $5.00
- A cab ride is necessary from the International Airport to the Central
Camionera del Sur (South Bus Station). Cost is about $10.00. Taxi cabs are
available outside the baggage claim area of airport. We recommend that you
use only this service for your safety.
- Arriving Taxco, take a taxi to the hotel.
- Tips : Bring comfortable shoes. Climate. Bring a light raincoat. Temperature
