[Movement and Improv CV] [Modern Dance ] [Running] [Music] [Outdoors] [Aikido]

To unwind I have found a number of activities that keep me entertained, relieve stress and put life in perspective

Modern Dance

In college I took a modern dance class called "Elements of Movement" that led me to the obscure dance form called Contact Improvisation. The best description is that you are in contact with another person at all time and both dancers improvise what happens next. There's no way to describe it in words but here are some pictures that may help. You can also check out my

Running
I was forced into running long distance on my high school track team- I really wanted to be a jumper. I got hooked on the repetative/meditative feel of my feet hitting the ground. I have finished a few marathons, including Boston in 2004. More recently I have started to run trails including the
Dam Full Marathon, Hyner Challenge, an I qualified for the World Toughest Mudder at the tri-state event.

Music
I was a DJ for a local dance group called GOFEET through graduate school. My taste in music is about as diverse as can be; Rock, classical, electronica, jazz, folk, rap, world..... I also have been know to pick up my old trumpet and play a tune or two myself.

Outdoors
Tracing the tortuous path of a mountain stream with a pack on my back and the sun on my shoulders is an ideal way to spend a weekend!

Aikido
Aikido is a Japanese martial art form in which energy from an attacker is redirected rather than blocked. Some basic principles are: 1) Keep your balance at all times, 2) All natural motions are spirals 3) Your center is the most powerful part of your body, use it.
