The following is from Cheryl Berthelsen 10/16/2002

First, my ancestor John Ford of Monroe Co, WV filed for pension as a Rev War soldier in Mar 1824 in Monroe Co. His petition is long but I have transcribed it and you can find it in the USGenWeb Archives for WV. In his petition he states in joined the military in Montgomery Co, MD and the he was 70 years old the past Sep. This gives his birth as Sep 1753. He states his wife is 63 and he has 5 sons and 3 daughters, all grown. He died in 1833. The Will Book of Monroe Co has declaration by Peter MINNER that it was John Ford, Sr.'s intention that his son, Benjamin Ford inherit the land he was to receive from his Rev War experience and the land he inherited from his father in Maryland.

In Maryland 1776 Census we find John Foard living alone age 23 in PG Co. The family just above him is
William Foard, Jr. (age 47 b 1729) and wife Susanna (age 43 b 1733). With then is a dau (age 13 b 1763), son (age 8 b 1768 ) and son (age 2 b 1774).

The church Register of the Protestent Episcopal Church in King George's Parish lists the following births:
Mary, b Oct 27, 1763, dau of William and Susanna
Joseph, bap Jun 19, 1768, son of William and Susanna
Edward Brook, b Feb 20, 1774, son of William and Susanna

The final administration of the estate of William Foard, Jr. in 1818, PG Co states:
To be equally divided among the deceased's eight children or their Representatives, namely:
John FOARD
The Representatives of Eleanor TONG (m Wm Tong abt 1775)
Elizabeth TIMPSON (m John Timpson January 12, 1803)
The Representatives of Mary WARD (m Benjamin Ward July 17, 1784)
The Representatives of Charlotte DOWNING
William FOARD
James FOARD
Edward B. FOARD

William, James, Elizabeth, Charlotte and Eleanor are all married by 1776 so not listed with family of William, Jr.

Just one page away in same 1776 MD Census is listed:

William Foard, Sr. (age 70 b 1706) and wife Elizabeth (age 55 b 1721) with them is a female age 40 with three teen sons ages (18, 16, and 13). This is clearly the father of William Jr.
