GLYOXYSOME
Size:
Location:
Function:
Similar to peroxisomes but in plant cells. They use energy from stored
fatty acids to form a new plant from seeds. This metabolic activity
involves the conversion of stored fatty acids to carbohydrates. The
disassembly of the fatty acids forms acetyl CoA which then condenses
with oxaloacetate to form citrate. The citrate is then converted to
glucose by a series of enzymes in the glyoxylate cycle within the glyoxysome.
