GEOL 103 - Spring 2006
INSTRUCTOR: Carl Kirby

After the first test:
A number of students are often taken aback at their grade after receiving the first test. My philosophy is to make the tests challenging so they are good discriminators. Some of you did well and probably don't need to see me. Others are in the middle ground and will also want to see me. Those who made grades below 70 definitely should schedule a time to see me.

Grades are on a 10-point scale, 90-100 = A, 80-89 = B, etc. Recall that you can drop the lowest test grade (not the final). The writing and lab grades will pull most people's grades up. The diagram below illustrates this, based on some assumptions. E.g.,
if you made a 67 on the first test and all subsequent test, you could end up with about an 80 for the final grade.
