In April of 1999, the Northumberland County Conservation District was awarded $30,000 by the PA Department of Natural Resource Conservation's River Conservation program for the development of a comprehensive plan to address water quality problems in the Shamokin Creek Watershed. The plan will pull together information from several sources and help choose the order in which water quality problems and mine drainage discharges should be addressed. Educational and public outreach will be a significant part of the plan.
