Fifth Street viewed from Market during the peak of the January 1996 flood caused by rainfall on top of a major snowpack. Slackwater from Bull Run blocked by the Susquehanna River covers the street. Although less than a 20-yr flood on the Susquehanna, the 1996 flood exceeded the 100-yr event in many smaller streams in the area.
