Week
6 - Fourier - 1
Here are my thoughts on the sixth week's material, etc.
-
This week I introduced
Fourier Series and Numerical Calculation (DFT) of Fourier Series.
-
Monday and the first part
of Wednesday I introduced the DFT. (Second half of Wed was Quiz 5)
-
Friday was devoted to
a sequence of problems (Two guided Problems 1
& 2,
Freq4P07)
and the three-part set on filtering the lab data from the pressure sensors.
-
Lab this week consists
of getting data for some "standard signals" i.e. sine, triangular and square.
BUT, I have them take 1, 2 and 2.5 cycles worth of data and DFT that.
Interesting results with non-integral number of cycles. Here's
the note.
-
The labs here let students
get acquainted with an oscilloscope. They are probably too short.
-
In-Class exercises
-
The sequence above works
really well. The notes for this segment have a good calculator/simulator
that I built in Flash.
-
Class Notes - Good
-
Some things to think about.
-
Sensors encountered to
this point in the course.
-
Thermocouples
-
LM35s - giving two examples
of sensors with voltage outputs
-
Thermistor - giving an
example of a sensor with a resistance change.
-
AC Tachometers
-
Pressusre Sensors
