Schematic

From Mechanical Refrigeration by Norman R. Sparks and Charles C. DiILIO

Schematic Equipment

Step 1-2 Compressor

Step 3-4 Condenser

Step 5-6 Receiver (Hold subcooled liquid)

Step 7-8 Expansion Valve

Step 8-9 Evaporator

P-V and T-S Diagrams

P-V Diagram Steps

1-2 Vapor is compressed

3-4 Heat is removed from refrigerant at constant pressure. First super heated vapor is cooled to saturated vapor. The vapor then condenses with no change in temperature. Finally, the liquid is cooled below saturation temperature.

5-6 Receiver holds sub cooled liquid (no change in state, not shown on graphs)

7-8 Expansion Valve (Throttle) reduces the pressure of the liquid.

8-9 Liquid is evaporated at a constant pressure. Vapor is compressed
