My Opinion

Derek + Forensic Science + Technology = Wow That's Really Cool

It is my opinion that forensic science is worth every penny we as tax payers put into to it. The implementation of science into the criminal justice system is just another way in which science touches our lives on a daily basis. We may not see it, but men and women every day are in courtrooms using these analyses. Every day scientists are expressing their expert opinions in an effort to keep us safe. By the same token these people are using this evidence to eliminate suspects from cases and introduce new ones into to it.

The payoff of forensic science is evident every day as we leave our homes. We feel safe knowing that we have a weapon against criminals in addition to law enforcement. Forensic science has proven useful in our effort to combat terrorism. The U.S. is in Iraq right now (May 5, 2003) inspecting everything they come across looking for weapons of mass destruction. Whether it be biological, chemical, or nuclear troops are looking for evidence and evidence means taking samples for analysis.

Forensic science I believe has revolutionized the criminal justice system and has often provided courts with more than just motive on which to pursue criminals. The amount of material required for a specific analysis may only be micrograms. This small amount makes it very difficult for anyone to totally clean up their tracks.
