Visual Effects in Film

aaVFX

Visual effects (VFX) in film, television, and games as a technology has seen a dramatic growth over the past several years. Computer generated imagery (CGI) and VFX in post production has allowed movie production to be both faster and easier with better results. The film industry relies heavily on digital effects to create sets, characters, stunts, etc. In movies such as The Matrix and Lord of the Rings, it is difficult to tell the difference between what is real and what is not. With the rate at which this technology is expanding, it may be possible to produce movies without any actors.

Digital visual effects uses several techniques such as 3D modeling, animation, rendering, compositing, and motion capture to achieve these realistic shots. The purpose of this webpage is to be a learning tool of these major techniques. Many of these techniques are complicated and technical in nature. However, in this website I try to strip away the technical aspect and teach the main concepts. Hopefully after visiting this site, you will have a better understanding and appreciation for digital effects and virtual cinematography.
