Some Favorite Rides

Welcome to my coaster page. This page is a pictorial journal of my trips to amusement parks, and the roller coasters and thrill rides that I have 'dared' to ride.

I actually didn't ride coasters much when I was a kid. Most of my coaster riding has been done in more recent years, beginning when I took my own kids to amusement parks. Sue, my wife, is usually in the seat next to me.

The index at left is arranged chronologically. My most recent trip is at the top.

Is riding roller coasters fun? Or is this some kind of silly display of machismo? I'll offer the following picture of my daughter, her friend Chris and I, taken about midway through Alpengeist. At the point this picture was taken, we've been ferried to the clouds while dangling below the track, plunged to bottom of a 170 foot spiral, reaching 67 mph, and turned upside-down four times. I sure looks to me like we're having fun!

Do I have a favorite roller coaster? With the addition of Apengeist, there's no doubt that my favorite coaster and my favorite amusement park (Busch Gardens, Williamsburg) coincide.

While I have included links to the amusement parks themselves, I have not attempted to maintain any general coaster links. There are literally hundreds of pages available with links to coaster and amusement park sites. I didn't see any sense in trying to duplicate what others have already done. If you want links to other coaster sites, use your favorite search engine, and look for "roller coaster" or your favorite park or coaster by name. Or, you can start at one of my favorites, www.thrillride.com, which contains links to other coaster sites.

Pictures are generally taken from the web sites of the amusement parks themselves. In some cases, I have downloaded pictures from public image archives. In several cases, where I couldn't find another picture, I've taken a picture from another coaster site. Place your pointerover a picture for credits, where available. My grand plan is to use pictures of my own wherever possible.
