Project Four | |
| The goal of this project is to give the prospective biology teacher experience maintaining plants and animals in the classroom and provide experience with successfully integrating these organisms into useful learning experiences. |
This is the second project that will be done individually. In the biology classroom it is important that students have the opportunity to interact with and use a variety of living organisms in their studies. To ensure a growing familiarity with a variety of organisms, each student will bring at least 3 organisms into the classroom, one belonging to the plant kingdom, one belonging to the animal kingdom, and the third being a single-celled organism, either a prokaryote or a single-celled eukaryote. Each student will maintain these organisms in the classroom for the semester and provide written instruction for the entire class as to 1) how to maintain and handle this organism and 2) possible experimental situations in which this organism might be useful. Your instructor may also bring in organisms for which you will provide care.
To facilitate obtaining these materials, the [Project Four Resource Page] will provide a list of useful resource books for maintaining a wide variety of living organisms. Many of these references will be available in the classroom for your use. Links to sources of live material will also be provided.
Cite at least two items that you found useful for completion of these projects that were not listed on the resource page, and that you would like to see added. Also, cite any listed resources that you found to be irrelevant, and which you think ought to be removed from the resource list.
