Association
for Biology Laboratory Education (ABLE) ABLE
is an organization of biology instructors whose goal is to improve the quality
of laboratory instruction. Each year a series of laboratories are presented
at their annual workshops and these labs are published as annual volumes.
Primarily for instructors of introductory level college biology courses.
The National Science Teachers
Association The National Science Teachers Association is an organization
of science education professionals and has as its purpose the stimulation,
improvement, and coordination of science teaching and learning. Publications
of NSTA include: Science and Children, Science Scope, The
Science Teacher, Journal of College Science Teaching, and NSTA
Reports.
National Association of
Biology Teachers Be sure to check this site. The National Association
of Biology Teachers if the largest national association dedicated exclusively
to the concerns of biology and life science educators. This site offers links
to key resources for biology teachers. This organization also publishes the
professional The American Biology Teacher [link to journal page] containing
useful information for the classroom. The NABT also publishes helpful position
statements on key issues and monographs related to the teaching of biology.

National Science Education
Leadership Association (NSELA) The National Science Education Leadership
Association promotes the development of efficient and effective supervisory
practices as a means to improve science education. NSELA facilitates communication
among and provides opportunities for science supervisors to discuss and take
action on matters of common interest and concern.
School Science and Mathematics
Association (SSMA) The School Science and Mathematics Association
was founded in 1901 for the purposes of disseminating research findings and
its implications for school practice.
American Institute of Biological
Sciences (AIBS) The AIBS was initially established as part of the
National Academy of Sciences but later became independent. The stated goal
of AIBS is "to further the advancement of the biological sciences and
their application to human welfare, and to foster and encourage research and
education in the biological, medical, environmental, and agricultural sciences."
BioScience is an interdisciplinary journal, it contains many articles
relevant to the general public, and is written at a level that students could
understand.
The Association for Science
Education (ASE) One of the major British assocations for science educators.
They publish a number of journals and newsletters including School Science
Review, Education in Science and Science Teacher Education. Their homepage
also provides links to their information of topics such as safety in the science
classroom and guides for animal usage.
