DISCUSSION LEADER SCHEDULE FOR ULYSSES EPISODES
ENGLISH 326 / 626, FALL 2009
This assignment requires that you serve as "discussion leader" for one episode of Ulysses, which will require you to prepare for the class in which we will discuss that episode by reading the primary text carefully, checking the biographical sources for relevant contextual information (especially Richard Ellmann's James Joyce), going over Joyce's "schemas," letters, and other relevant comments on the episode, and perusing relevant critical articles (see especially Hart and Hayman's Jame Joyce's Ulysses: Critical Essays, on Reserve). Michael Groden's "Reading Ulysses" web pages provide excellent resources for this presentation as well. Remember that the guidelines for making effective oral presentations include preparing in advance, finding interesting things to say, talking directly to your audience, and especially, not going way over or under your suggested time limit (in this case, approximately 10 minutes).
Please pick an episode below and e-mail me to reserve it.
