PRELIMINARY EXERCISES

1. Due Friday, 1/28, email by 4:00 p.m.
   A. Two 100-word descriptions: places
      a) Room: using 3rd-person focused narration
      b) Landscape: using 1st-person (reliable) narration

    B. Two 100-word descriptions of characters
      a) Sympathetic orientation: using 3rd-person focused narration
      b) Mistrustful orientation: using 1st person (unreliable) narration

2. Due Tuesday, 2/1 (email by noon): Two 200-word descriptions of action:
    a) Subtle action: using 3rd-person focused narration
    b) Not so subtle: using 1st-person (reliable or unreliable; the reader should be able to tell the difference.

3. Due Tuesday, 2/8 (email by noon): One page of dialogue (2 characters only): Use the 3rd-person focused or 1st person, but keep narration at a minimum. Use quotation marks, standard indentation for dialogue in fiction.
