Merle and Jimmy
They were married for thirty years. Most of that time they
lived in an apartment complex on S. W. 74th and May in Oklahoma City. She
met him at the Veterans' Hospital in the fifties, where she did volunteer
work and where he was hospitalized for a time after the Korean War, suffering
from what might have been called, in an earlier war, shell-shock. He needed
her at a time when nobody else seemed to need her anymore. She provided
emotional support for him, and he supported her financially through his
disability pension. Although he was seventeen years younger than she was,
he outlived her by only a little over two months.
