A Portrait of the Senator as a Young Man

Here's Our Bob in his twenties, I'd say, maybe even a little younger, in the late 1860s or as late as 1875. The war, at any rate, was over, his father, Nathaniel Greene Taylor, had completed his term as Indian Commissioner, and the family was back in Tennessee. In this photograph, Our Bob looks as though he knows what he wants but doesn't care all that much whether he gets it or not.
