Computer Models

Testing on real equipment is important. However, it is tremendously helpful to have models of the board in the virtual world because we can manipulate parameters to better understand the response. We created a 3 D solid model of the snowboard. Then we needed to add physical parameters such as its modulus of elasticity which defines its stiffness. So we did some tests in the laboratory on a real board to measure its response to bending and other vibrations. We then iterated on values of physical characteristics in the computer model until we got saw the same response. In this way, we were able to get a fairly accurate computer model of an actual snowboard.
