We have in place important Emergency Procedures for all staff to follow in case of any threat to the Library building or materials.
The Bertrand Library Disaster Response Team was created in 1993. Our initial task was the development of a Disaster Response Plan, with the assistance of Disaster Preparedness Consultants Sally Buchanan and Susan Melnick.
The Response Team is made up of staff from all Departments within the Library building, bringing expertise in technical processing, Library stacks maintenance, materials preservation, maintenance of public services, and all the skills required to handle a Library emergency. Our continuing charge is to:
Develop plans for disaster response and recovery
Prepare for disaster response
Train Library staff and Team members in disaster prevention and response
Participate in State and regional cooperative initiatives
Focus on preservation of Library materials
COOL Conservation Online from Stanford University includes a page on disaster preparedness and response.
Colorado Preservation Alliance Disaster Recovery Database offers recommendations on disaster recovery steps and procedures.
